Life is full of surprises

rtist Peter Anton’s mixed media sculpture in the Madden Collection at the University of Denver is a where visitors (both to the exhibit and website) are encouraged to spend 5 to 10 minutes fully contemplating a piece rather than the average 27 seconds. Posted along with the piece are prompts to consider: “How does the 3D quality of the large candies change your experience with this work,” “Come up with flavors for each one,” “Which candy is your favorite,” “Register the most powerful colors in the work—how can color draw your eye across the box,” and “How does the scale change the way you think about this work?” Every year on April 4, museums around the country come together to celebrate Slow Art Day and even though this exhibit will be closed for in-person visits, people are encouraged to participate by leisurely viewing the work online and interacting with the content on social media.
