Cream of Cornwall
I was getting ready for a long trip to France, so will admit to being neglectful in not reading that month’s issue (August 2021) of MMM.
As a motorhome-owning Cornishman, perhaps I should have taken more notice of the generally informative article by Scott Currie on my home. I should mention that ‘the eccentric driving’ of locals is hardly the best way of endearing oneself to one’s hosts, but it may be due to those sightseeing at about 10mph or parking where they should not. And, while being pedantic, both the Mermaid Inn on St Marys and The Turks Head on the island of St Agnes are both pubs further west than the two pubs mentioned.
That said, it was very interesting to read how other people see our wonderful county and its attractions. I am glad that the Curries enjoyed their visit and hope that they will return soon.

Proposals by Transport Scotland for increasing the fares for motorhomes
Several years ago, I used to write articles for MMM on Scottish ferries. These are now combined with other UK ferries, but I thought that the following should be checked as it looks like it will make the prices radically different for this year.
Transport Scotland is consulting stakeholders on increasing the fares for motorhomes by 50% to 70% above the rate of increase for cars this summer.
Information is on this page mullandionaferrycommittee.org/2021/12/07/fare-increases-for-motorhomes
I could not, however, find anything on the Transport Scotland website.
As a resident of the Isle of Lewis, we will be directly adversely affected by this as our motorcaravan is our primary vehicle to travel off the island and we make around eight return trips per year, which, under these proposals, would cost us around £500 per year. There are estimated to be between 250 and 500 motorcaravans registered on the islands.
There doesn’t appear to be any proposal to increase the price for ordinary vans up to six metres long and there seems to be no reference to trailers, which would include caravans, having their price similarly increased.
In addition, this extra fare will not go to the islands to help them improve tourist services, just back to Transport Scotland or the Scottish Government to reduce the subsidy paid to CalMac.
