Asked and answered – in praise of amazing readers… New Zealand tips

We toured NZ in 2011, in a rented motorhome, and had a wonderful time. No doubt some things have changed since then, but many will not have, so here are some thoughts.

We used Hema Maps’ New Zealand Motorhome and Camping Atlas  hemamaps.com.au to plan our trip. This not only has excellent country maps, but also detailed maps of the main towns and cities, as well as a comprehensive list of campsites.

We also used the very good Rough Guide to New Zealand. In NZ we bought guidebooks for local birds, trees and for other local wildlife – very necessary as they are all so different from European species. We took our sat-nav with us, having bought add-on NZ maps for it.

We spent six weeks there, three weeks on each island.
