William and Kate headed deep into the Chiquibul National Forest to climb one of Belize’s most spectacular Mayan ruins, Caracol, in the foothills of the Maya Mountains.
And from the top of the 3,000-year-old monument, close to the border with Guatemala, the Duchess’s reaction to the vast jungle landscape below was simply: “Wow.”
The couple walked in searing heat to the top of the 141ft-high Caana, or “sky palace”, marvelling at how it was built by hand and remains the tallest man-made structure in Belize.
