So says Dr Marlena du Toit, a Cape Town-based gynaecologist.
“A woman’s respiratory function also changes during pregnancy, especially during the last weeks of the pregnancy,” she adds. “Therefore, a pregnant woman can have severe complications after an upper airway infection occurs.”
This goes for Covid too, and that’s why it is recommended that you get your vaccinations when you’re pregnant, if you haven’t done so already. For the same reason the ‘flu vaccine is also recommended for pregnancy.
