Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy

LET’S PLAY 02 HUNDRED HOURS

This new direction from Graham Davey is set quite firmly in the genre of night raids during the Second World War, and whilst it has a clear focus on North-West Europe, the reader is reminded that they can transplant the rules over to, say, the jungle or the desert or other theatres. Mechanically, this could work fairly well, but there appears to be a subtle difficulty in doing so: all the resources so far seem to be rather one-sided. I don’t mean imbalanced – it’s just that within what we were sent for review, all the raiders are British, and all the defenders are German. It’s a little hard to see how we could use their rules for a night raid on Iwo Jima …

Part of the each of the figures on the tabletop has a corresponding ‘recruitment card’ listing their in-game statistics, equipment, and special rules: there doesn’t appear to be any master list from which players can choose fighters to make up their force; players simply have to have the recruitment cards. are told there will be a ‘get-you-by’ army list available online.
