Do I need a chronograph?

Q I want to tune my pre-charged airgun to optimise its performance with different pellets and slugs. Will I need a chronograph to do this properly?

A Tuning a pre-charged airgun usually entails tweaking regulator pressure, along with hammer spring tension and the valve, in order to get the most suitable power output for whatever ammunition you are using.

While it may be possible to judge your results simply by shooting groups to test accuracy, measuring muzzle velocity will give a clearer view as to what effect any adjustments have made, not only in terms of power gain but also consistency.
