Going all the way back to the Mayans and the Aztecs, they discovered the cacao bean which they dried, ground, and mixed with water to create a drink. They were not only the first people to discover the early form of chocolate, but they believed that it was a gift from God – and many still think that today! To them cacao beans were even more valuable than gold.
