HOW TO MAKE A FLORAL EMBROIDERED WALL HANGING
MATERIALS
■ 45 x 70cm (17¾ x 27 5/8") natural calico fabric
■ 20 x 20cm (7/8x 7 7/8") cotton fabric in light blue, emerald green, light green, fuchsia, navy and orange
■ Stranded cotton: 1 skein each in blue, light blue, green, emerald green, lime green, lilac, orange, peach, pink, dark pink and light pink
■ 50cm (19¾") wide floor or lap wooden tapestry frame
■ Two 43 x 100cm (17 x 39 /8") iron-on adhesive
■ 32 x 62cm (12 /8 x 24 /8") iron-on interfacing
■ 30cm (11/8") long dowel rod, 1cm diameter
■ Basic embroidery kit
NOTES ON CONSTRUCTION
Due to the large size of this project, it's best to use a tapestry frame for ease of stitching. However, if you would prefer to use an embroidery hoop instead, then you’ll need to move the hoop around as you work each section and use clips to help manage the excess fabric.
This wall hanging is all about texture. It uses lots of different embroidery techiques, fromknotting to long stitches, to get that lovely tactile look. Avoid crushing the knots while ironing by placing the finished stitching face down on a clean towel beforehand – the thick fabric will help cushion the knots.
