Thanks to its tranquil leafiness and exciting mixed borders, it’s hard to believe that this plant-packed small garden sits right in the heart of London. “The owners, Andrew and Louise, brought up their two kids here,” explains its designer Jane Brockbank. “They’d had the garden designed and built previously, but it was incredibly dull: nearly all lawn with very little interesting planting and mostly bare fences.”
Atmosphere and a sense of the countryside has been carefully injected into the space. “Bare fences make gardens look much more urban, so I added in lots of hornbeam hedging to give it a country feel,”
