When you shop for a new car, does fuel efficiency or perhaps an electric car figure in your buying decision? If your answer to any of these questions is yes or even sometimes, then congratulations – you are working to incorporate eco-consciousness and sustainability into your day-to-day life. So, how about your quilting life? Would you like to incorporate sustainability into this very important part of your life?
Why should we pay attention to sustainability in our quilting life? We are learning that textile manufacturing generates water pollution in our rivers and oceans, puts an excessive amount of material into landfills and even contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. It starts with how cotton is grown because it undergoes a water-intensive process that often requires the use of chemical fertiliser. As our concern for the Earth grows, more and more quilters and other makers demand sustainable and eco-friendly practices from the textile industry.
