It’s not often that Ford drop the ball and take a financial battering, but Ford of Britain managed this three times in the 1960s. First was the 1961 Classic – not a bad car, but one that was already out of date when launched, offering 1950s Americana just a year before cars like the Morris 1100 and indeed the Cortina. The Corsair came next – again good, but not a rousing sales success because it offered little over a 1500 Cortina Super, and the 2000E was Ford overreaching itself trying to compete with executive saloons from Rover and Triumph.
