PORT INSPECTOR

Dear Retro Gamer,

I’ve been a reader for a long time – and at the grand old age of 45, a gamer even longer. I love the varied features within the magazine, along with the fascinating interviews, but by far my favourite element has been, and always will be, Conversion Capers. Growing up during the very peak of the playground format wars, it’s interesting to look back at the games I loved without the brown/colour-clash/green-tinted glasses most of us wore back then. I was fortunate reader you had the ability to delve a little deeper, but how many of us read reviews of games on those other systems we didn’t own unless it was with lust? I used to do just that with the Sega Master System which seemed otherworldly at the time! I’d play the odd ZX Spectrum or Amstrad CPC game at a mate’s house, but generally our exposure was either limited, or filled with the attitude of bravado, scorn and denial.
