Welsh football looking up

“It’s an exciting time for Wales and Welsh football,” stated national team manager Rob Page following the World Cup play-off draw. Page was discussing his side’s preparations to take on Austria, with a potential final against Scotland or Ukraine on the line, but his statement applies across the board. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is implementing an ambitious programme of change to make a difference to the country as a whole, as well as the men’s first team.

“The incentive is there for us,” added Page. “We’ve given ourselves a great opportunity and it’s all there to play for.” The Dragons’ only previous appearance at the World Cup was back in1958, and this is the first time that the nation has reached the play-offs since. Home advantage for both fixtures is significant for Wales, and the power of an intense Cardiff City Stadium atmosphere cannot be underestimated when” fire up the red wall.
