Making Sense of Multiples

Prior to beginning any crochet project, work a 4-inch by 4-inch sample swatch in your pattern stitch of choice. Not only will this help to familiarize you with a new pattern, it will also provide you with enough fabric to measure that all-important gauge!

Let’s start with the basic pattern for our Multiples Square Pillow featuring popcorn cables (see page 29):

Row 1 (RS): With honeydew, ch 33, working in back bar of chs (see illustration), hdc in 3rd ch from hook (2 sk chs count as first hdc) and in each ch across, turn.

Row 2 and all even-numbered rows (WS): Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn.

Ch 1, hdc in each of first 2 sts, [sk next 2 sts 2 rows below,   around next st 2 rows below, hdc in next st, working in front of
