Nicola Coughlan GIRL OF THE MOMENT

The effervescent Irish actor is just getting started

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan always knew she was destined for the screen. “I watched The Wizard of Oz when I was four and I was completely entranced. I didn’t know what it was that I wanted so badly, but whatever it was, it was that.”

For the 35-year-old Irish actor, success was a long time coming. She played a role in a short film in 2004 and did some voice work here and there, but after struggling to make ends meet she packed it in and went back to live with her family in Galway, where she worked at an optician.

Coughlan returned to the arts in 2016, after she auditioned for a London play and was cast as the lead. This led to her big break in 2018, when she landed the role of Clare Devlin in the series Derry Girls.
