Scent dogs help to ‘sniff out’ seabirds

THE RSPB HAS trained scent dogs to track seabirds that nest in burrows as part of a new conservation study.
Researchers have been testing the ability of two dogs to detect Manx shearwater and European storm petrels in burrows.
In a recent paper, the RSPB team discuss the training and performance of a one-year-old golden retriever called Islay and a 12-year- old Border collie called Dewi.
