Outer Hebrides named as key stronghold for wild rock doves

A TEAM OF researchers from the University of Oxford have used DNA sampling to learn more about the colonies of wild rock doves that inhabit islands and remote coasts in Scotland and Ireland.

The pure-bred rock dove () is extinct in England and Wales and has been declining throughout its global range, which used to cover vast areas of Africa, Asia and Europe.
