Australia’s south-east has just enjoyed one of its mildest, wettest summers in recent memory – and you won’t hear me complaining.
I loathe long, hot summers, where the countryside bakes and waterways evaporate. Mercifully, the summer just gone was the complete opposite.
Forty-degree days, water restrictions and bushfire warnings were replaced by comfortable temperatures and regular rainfall as a dominant La Nina weather pattern took hold.

I wasn’t the only one who revelled in the conditions. With so much water around, trout fishers across NSW had one of their best summers ever.
