ON POINT

Adancer’s final performance on their farewell tour – particularly when you’re talking stars at the world-renowned American Ballet Theatre – is usually a dramatic flower-filled affair, each round of final bows more emotional than the last, the crowd surging out of their red-velvet chairs holding their phones in the air in a desperate attempt to preserve this moment in history. For many of these dancers, it’s a moment they dream about their whole lives: the gushing profile in The New York Times; the petals and confetti streaming down from the ceiling; the endless procession of bouquets; their friends, family and fans flying in from all over the world to witness it.
