Happily Ever After

Hans Christian Andersen was born on 2nd April 1805 in Odense, Denmark. He was an only child and his family were very poor. His father was a shoemaker and his mother washed laundry to bring in money for the family. His father died when he was 11 years old. Hans was sent to a school for poor children where he had to support himself. He worked as a weaver’s apprentice and then a tailor’s assistant.
