Given the original iFi hip-dac took apart the preconceptions anyone might have had of what a ‘serious’ portable DAC should look like, the chief problem for this sequel is surely the loss of novelty value. Upon unboxing the hip-dac 2, for example, we no longer exclaim, “Ha! It really does look like a hip flask!” And aside from a new sunset orange paint job, it otherwise looks as if not much has changed here.
