One-off, bespoke motorhomes have been around since the invention of the internal combustion engine, with many well-documented self-builds being constructed on early chassis such as the Model T Ford. In the UK, the Austin Motor Company displayed a motorhome at the Motor Show in 1909, which had been built for Arthur Du Cros of Dunlop tyre fame.
