ifteen hundred years ago, the Sasanian king Khosrow, known for his wisdom, was in the middle of a desert in the vast Persian empire that stretched from Anatolia to Egypt on one side and to Pakistan on the other. The desert was in the centre of the land known as Fārs (of the Persians), characterised by extreme heat during the day and freezing temperatures at night.
