In the 1950s Iran attracted Domus attention for its cutting edge drive towards modern architecture. In those days the Italian magazine was still directed by its founder, Gio Ponti, the first truly global architect, who never stopped keeping a curious and informed eye on architectural trends and developments all over the world. It’s therefore not by chance that Ponti became fascinated with Iran, its architectural achievements and potential, as would be made clear by his own commitment to the landmark project of Villa Namazee, which was to be completed in 1964. It is in this context that the article was published in issue 340 of March 1958.
