    The Atacama Large Millimeter/ submillimeter Array (ALMA) specialises in studying protoplanetary discs, the mess of material that surrounds young stars and eventually comes together to build planets. While scientists do plenty of work analysing already-formed exoplanets, studying protoplanetary discs offers an opportunity to see all those ingredients mixed up and spread out.
