THE FIRST HELLO / Birth photographers River Bennett and Bel Litchfield
We created a photo essay called ‘Homebodies’, which documents families across Sydney through the windows of their homes as they live house-bound and socially isolated. Life across the world is a bit of a paradox at the moment. The heaviness of the crisis, the joy of children unaware, the required confinement, and yet, the sweet togetherness – we couldn’t help but want to draw attention to the beauty amongst the ashes. We’ve always been amazed by the juxtaposition of intense pain and extreme joy that we witness capturing births, and it seems this season has brought the same contrast to the fore. It has revealed to us another facet of the human experience… our lives are lived in the light and shade. And often it’s the dark moments that shake us to attention to relish the glimpses of joy in amongst the fray.
