We have been so fortunate to live in the Golden Age of travel. In the years before the pandemic, 1.2 billion people travelled internationally annually. There has been a whopping 300 per cent increase in passengers on planes since 1990. This wouldn’t have been possible without the democratisation of airfares, which have been cheap and plentiful, making every corner of the globe accessible.

Those of us with the wherewithal to travel for leisure would acknowledge what a great privilege it is to pack our bags and jet off to a holiday destination, especially if we are able to do it in great comfort and luxury. It’s staggering to know that only six per cent of the world’s population
