Autism cause or effect?

• A recent study published in medical journal has linked microbial diversity in the gut with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Australian researchers – a newly identified bacterium associated with anaemia/malnutrition. When publishing the study, the researchers were careful to note that differences in the children’s microbiome may be due to limited and selective eating. This would impact the diversity of good gut bugs, so it is not clear whether these microbes are driving autism – or are more likely to be a symptom of it.
