KONGSBERG: WHAT HAPPENED?

On the evening of Wednesday, 13 October 2021, five people were killed and three seriously injured after a series of assaults in the small Norwegian town of Kongsberg, about 50 miles south-west of the capital, Oslo. From the first news broadcast onwards, it was described as a ‘bow-and-arrow attack’. Five people dead, a question as to whether it was a terrorist incident, and the news flashing round the world with the words ‘bow-and-arrow attack’ firmly attached, along with a well-syndicated image of an unfletched arrow sticking in a wall at an odd angle.
