Riding sweep for a large event is an important position. Not that myself, my sweep partner Troy and the sweep vehicle driver are important. It’s the fact that sweeps are there to help and make sure no-one is left behind. That’s important to allow big events like Ténéré Tragics run smoothly and provide confidence to entrants. Ténéré Tragics is open to any Ténéré owner and just like the bikes, they can be old or new to adventure riding.
Being a sweep has its good and bad moments. We leave late, so we can have a sleep-in and I always try to have a good, filling breakfast as once you hit the trails, anything can happen and you have no idea when you’ll eat again. Here are 10 of my most memorable moments as sweep through the history of the Ténéré Tragics. Not all are good, as we often have to deal with the aftermath of an accident. They are not in any particular order.
