FULL STEAM
In the late 1800s the area around Nelligen was prime country for gold diggers hoping to make their fortunes. A hundred-odd years later, the area is filled with golden trails ready for dirtbike riders to turn over some dirt, but with knobby tyres instead of picks and shovels.
The trails stretch for hundreds of kilometres and have something for everyone, from adventure riders to hardcore enduro nutters. Recently I was invited to the NSW south coast to join the DSMRA’s annual Steam Packet Ride which runs from the showgrounds in Milton to Nelligen and back.
The route involved riding through several creeks and streams before spending the night at Nelligen and returning the next day. I was in the midst of developing a trailriding engine map for the WR450F (ADB #504) so I jumped at the chance. It sounded like a fantastic weekend away and a great test for our new engine map.
THE PREP
Yamaha had loaned us a WR450F to develop and test a map using their Power Tuner App and were kind enough to let me hang onto the bike for the Steam Packet to allow
