Ins & Outs Biggest PSL transfers

As far as marquee signings go, few in the history of the DStv Premiership rank higher than Mamelodi Sundowns’acquisition of Teboho Mokoena.

The reigning league champions completed the signing of the Bafana Bafana star from Tshwane rivals SuperSport United in what has since been reported by the PSL to be the most expensive domestic transfer ever to be completed in the competition.

Mokoena, 25, primarily operates as a deeplying or defensive midfielder and arrives at Chloorkop as the natural successor to club legend Hlompho Kekana and has already been earmarked for a similar role by co-coach Rhulani Mokwena.

“After having lost Hlompho and the qualities he could provide, qualities that helped the team be so successful over the years, it was important for us to find the profile of a midfielder who could assist us with regard to unlocking defensive blocks, with longerranged passes and longer-ranged shot…” Mokwena said in a subsequent press release, revealing further that Mokoena had been signed as much for his attacking qualities as his defensive ones.
