Moving to the US from China was supposed to be the start of a fantastic adventure for Mengqi Ji.

Talented Mengqi, 28, had relocated from Shanghai to complete a degree in engineering at the University of Missouri.

Afterwards, she got a job at a Columbia company that manufactured dental products, and the direction of her life completely changed.

While working there, she became supervisor for colleague, Joseph Elledge.

At first, they were just friends, but a year later in 2016, they started dating.

Before long, they were in China visiting her family and Joseph asked Mengqi’s dad for his daughter’s hand in marriage.

After proposing at a Rock Bridge State Park, the couple married in 2017, and Columbia, Missouri, became a permanent home for Mengqi.
