When Dubai’s most in-demand interior designer Pallavi Dean renovated her family home, she worked hand in hand with her husband Richard to create the perfect environment. But there was no mistaking who was boss.

“My husband is a great sounding board for me because he knows who the designer is in the family. Right? It’s counter-intuitive for him to give me any advice on interiors,” says the businesswoman, who featured on BBC1’s Inside Dubai: Playground of the Rich, in which she was seen working for United Arab Emirates (UAE) Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. “But he has got a strong personality so it’s not like I would just tell him: ‘I want this. This is what we’re doing.’ There was a back-and-forth discussion process.”
