Review: Dreadbox Nymphes
Like Typhon, Nymphes is a very compact desktop synthesizer whose clear hardware layout should give beginners a smooth start into analog tweaking. Nymphes also offers raw, characterful analog sound with direct access, combined with digital effects and modulation options, as well as patch storage. At first glance, a lot reminds us of Roland‘s Juno series; however, sonically, Nymphes goes with its uncompromising, Dreadbox-typical sound of the VCO and the Low pass filter more in the direction of synthesizers from the late 70’s, such as the Prophet 5. In addition, the sound generation in Nymphes is much more complex than one would assume with a look at the clear user interface.
