For most of the year they hardly get any attention at all, then autumn arrives and many boat anglers suddenly go whiting mad. It’s understandable with fish weighing over 7lb caught in recent years.
Whiting, along with cod, poor cod, pouting, haddock, coalfish, and ling are members of the cod family; and, as such, they taste great. As far as the reason why anglers target them during the autumn and winter months, that probably has more to do with the whiting’s distinct migratory pattern, rather than the fact that they’re related to cod and taste
