FOLLOWING A CHANGE IN REGULATIONS in 2016, a complete ban on the sale of all ivory (except antique pieces dating from before 1925) in Hong Kong finally came into effect on December 31 after a five-year grace period that allowed traders to sell off their existing stock. From 2016 to 2021, 16.6 tonnes of ivory were sold, according to local media.
