TRIUMPH ROCKET III TOURER
Work on what can only be described as the world’s most outrageous production bike began in 1998. Aimed to rival the likes of the Honda Gold Wing and Harley Ultra Glide, the John Mockett-designed Triumph Rocket III could have been powered by either an in-line four, or V6 engine. Eventually though, it was decided to fit a trademark three-cylinder motor – though at 2.3 litres, it was over double the size of any other powerplant fitted to a Hinckley Triumph. Its 240-section rear tyre broke records, too.
