My little yellow tent and I…

During my first few years as a travel journalist, I didn’t own a tent, and I often had to borrow one from a friend. Everything went well until this tent “disappeared” once next to the Pongolapoort Dam outside Jozini. I thought it was stolen at first but spotted it the next morning floating about 100 m away in the dam. The wind was the thief.

It was high time to get my own tent, and I knew exactly what I wanted: a strong, lightweight tent that could fold up small enough to fit into a backpack when I went hiking – or my suitcase when I had to fly to my destination.
