Roxanne Cooley
hen did you start painting? I was 12 and did a study of Van Gogh’s for fun. Then, for my HSC, I completed a large abstract body of work that was exhibited and sold, which solidified paint as my medium. I have always had a deep appreciation of artists and their craft, and have been driven by the hope that maybe one day I could produce beautiful pieces. What style of art do you produce? My style is still evolving, mainly because I love variety and paint intuitively. But whether it’s an impressionist landscape or realistic still-life, there is always an underlying Australiana theme. What do you love most about painting? It brings many of my interests together – I can study nature and art at the same time while fulfilling that need to create. How would you describe your artistic practice? I endeavour to express the beauty around us in a tangible way. I love working with oil paint, ranging from thin washes to impasto, and am drawn to cool palettes that convey tranquillity. Where do you find inspiration? In the hillsides, mountains, coast and bushland… each time I venture outdoors I find something new and wonderful to tinker with. Do you take commissions? Not at the moment).
