BEHIND THE SMILE

Heading to my dance class, I couldn’t wait to perfect our new routine.

I’ve been dancing since I was two, and I enjoy nothing more than doing pirouettes, Pas De Bourrées and split leaps.

My dance teacher has always been fantastic and helped me secure roles in pantos and stage shows.

So, when she pulled me to one side when I was 12-years-old, I knew to take her seriously.

‘Macey, I’ve noticed a hump on your right rib,’ she told me with concern. ‘I think you should go to the hospital. It looks like scoliosis.’

I didn’t really understand what she meant. I was only 12.
