Brands with staying power

IT’S A common expression these days, “Whatever happened to...?” Nowadays, consumer goods come and go frequently with seemingly built-in obsolescence, and many of us have come to the mindset that things are just not built to last anymore.

Browsing somewhat absent-mindedly while queueing in my local mini supermarket recently, my gaze fell onto a tin of Fray Bentos steak and kidney pie. It has been more than half a lifetime since I’ve eaten one and it got me thinking, just how long the brand itself had been in existence (1961 in the UK actually).

Of course, my mind then flew off into a world of food
