MUCH like sister brand Kia, Hyundai has gone from strength to strength over the last 20 years or so. From a value-orientated also-ran to a respected leader for quality and reliability, few manufacturers have enjoyed such an impressive trajectory of success. While it’s the excellent Ioniq 5 EV and Tucson SUV that have enjoyed most of the attention of late, there’s still lots to be said for the brand’s cheapest and smallest offering.
The i10 was introduced in 2008 as a replacement for the rather basic Amica and Getz city cars. It offered a viable alternative to the popular Toyota Aygo and its siblings, with a no-nonsense character and generous five-year warranty. UK buyers loved it, too, and with sales stoked by the UK’s scrappage scheme, Brits bought one in three of Europe’s i10 allocation.
