Skills Workshop Blackwork

The name might be a bit of a giveaway, but traditionally Blackwork is worked in black thread. But, modern use of the technique has also seen bolder and brighter shades being added in to the intricate patterns. Essentially, the method involves combining Backstitch and Holbein stitch to produce a variety of line-based designs. These patterns are usually worked in a grid-like structure on evenweave fabrics such as aida, hardanger or linen, but can be worked more freely on cotton fabrics, for example.
