Renovating is a journey. The more preparation and planning you commit to, the greater your chance of a stress-free and successful outcome. There is much to do and decide during the planning stages.

Glenn Adam, operations manager at Smith & Sons Renovations and Extensions, says chatting with an architect, draughtsman and perhaps council can help you to gather knowledge — but first and foremost, seeking out a qualified renovation builder is the best starting point. “It’s builders who understand the costs and realities of renovating, and who know what can realistically be achieved in your specific circumstances,” he says.
