Acknowledging where to start is sometimes the most puzzling part of the process. Glenn Adam, operations manager at Smith & Sons Renovations and Extensions, says chatting with an architect, draughtsman and perhaps council can help you to gather knowledge — but first and foremost, seeking out a qualified renovation builder is the best starting point. “It’s builders who understand the costs and realities of renovating, and who know what can realistically be achieved in your specific circumstances,” he says.
What are you planning to renovate? Costs can vary enormously from room to room. While a bedroom can be renovated by adding some inbuilt joinery and paint, a kitchen is another matter altogether.
Glenn says it’s generally the most expensive space to renovate. “You have to consider all
