Ever moved your ball marker out of a fellow player’s line and failed to shift it back before putting? I have, and you only do it once thanks to the incurred penalty. So why would you enhance the need to do the courteous thing by choosing to use something resembling a manhole cover to mark your ball that gets in the way more often and is visually distracting.

Beyond that potential rules situation, I have never understood
