Romulus Augustus: the last Roman emperor

When it comes to the list of the Roman emperors, there are instantly recognisable names: the famous or infamous for their deeds (like Claudius’ conquest of Britain or Constantine and his conversion to Christianity) or their often deranged behaviour (think Caligula, Nero or Commodus). Their reigns have been pored over, told, retold and occasionally embellished as their place in the history of the Roman empire is weighed up.
