THE fog had settled in, ending a day that had been stolen from the clutches of the weather. It would have been unwise to hack back to the kennels in this poor visibility, so huntsman James Finney sent for the boxes to meet us at Jamie and Carolyn Cameron’s Forcett Barns. Jamie is chairman of the Catterick Beagles and soon to take over the role as chairman of the Zetland, while Carolyn has hunting ingrained in her DNA.
While hounds and horses were loaded, generous refreshment was being dispensed and Nick Hodgson arrived to collect his daughters, Harriett, Millie and Phoebe. Nick farms on the Durham side of the country but does not hunt himself. His father John was a master of these hounds in the 1980s and was known for being a great man across country.
