Bending the rules

When I heard that Jack Miller was going to race at The Bend, me and a couple of mates rode over from Melbourne. The Bend is an amazing place, with the feel of a European GP circuit.

We walked around to the grandstand between the last two corners. There was a marshal’s post right in front of us but, as the circuit was surrounded by a barrier, the flag marshals couldn’t get onto the circuit.

The next day we went to the same grandstand to watch the races. Wayne Maxwell was dominating in the Superbikes. In the first race, a rider highsided in front of us. He lay motionless at the side of the track apart from waving his arm, and the race was red-flagged.

We expected the marshals to rush out to assist him, but nobody moved. The first person to arrive and help the injured rider was
